Arrival Registration for Foreigners in Kazakhstan

After you enter Kazakhstan, you have to be registered at the place where you stay. We file the arrival notice in Astana and Almaty, including remotely when the property owner cannot do it.

Documents

Kazakhstan registration for foreigners is filed by the host: the apartment owner, the hotel or the organization you are staying with. An owner files it through egov.kz or the visa and migration portal using an electronic digital signature (EDS); hotels usually work through e-Qonaq. The general deadline is three business days from arrival. Citizens of Russia and Belarus are exempt for the first 30 days under bilateral agreements and register by the 30th day if they stay longer. If the deadline is missed, both the foreigner and the host can be fined.

In practice the difficulty is rarely the law and usually the people involved. The owner is abroad, has no EDS, or simply does not want to deal with the portal. In those cases we register you at your place of stay legally and remotely, check the host's details, and tell you what to do if you plan to stay longer.

Can be arranged remotely in Astana and Almaty if the property owner cannot file the notice.

Timelines are approximate: government agencies, consulates and banks set them.

What to watch out for

  • Missing the deadline means a fine for both the foreigner and the host
  • Repeated violations of the rules of stay carry more serious consequences

FAQ

How much does it cost?

Our service fee is from $25. Government fees, translations, insurance and other mandatory costs are paid separately; we send the full estimate before you sign.

Who has to register a foreigner who arrives in Kazakhstan?

The host: the property owner, the hotel or the organization the foreigner is staying with. If the owner is abroad, has no electronic signature or cannot file the notice for another reason, we can file it legally and remotely.

What is e-Qonaq?

It is the information system for notices about foreigners' stays, and hotels and other accommodation providers usually work through it. An apartment owner with an electronic signature can file the notice through egov.kz or the visa and migration portal instead. All of these methods are legal, and we pick the one that suits your owner.

How long is the registration valid?

Within your permitted period of stay, usually up to 90 days. If you plan to live in Kazakhstan longer, you need a temporary residence permit, and the registration procedure changes in that case.

What happens if I am not registered?

A breach of the rules of stay means a fine for the foreigner and for the host. Repeated breaches carry more serious consequences. If you realize the notice has not been filed, contact us as early as possible.

Can the arrival notice be filed remotely?

Yes. In Astana and Almaty we handle registration remotely if the property owner has no way to file it. We need your passport details, date of entry, address and details of the owner. Neither you nor the owner has to visit a Public Service Center.

Does Kazakhstan registration for foreigners apply to every nationality?

The general rule applies to all foreigners: the host files a notice within three business days of arrival. Citizens of Russia and Belarus are exempt for the first 30 days under bilateral agreements and register by the 30th day if they stay longer. We confirm the rule for your passport when you contact us.

Do you guarantee the result?

No. Decisions are made by government agencies, consulates and banks. We are responsible for preparing and checking documents, filing and support, and we tell you about the risks upfront.
