Spain Residence Permit for Family Members of the Main Applicant

We help your spouse and children get Spanish residence, either at the same time as your own case or later, once you already have status in Spain.

Families

A Spain residence permit for family members is based on the status of the main applicant: digital nomad, startup visa entrepreneur, student or financially independent resident. Your spouse and children apply together with you or join later through family reunification. In the first case their file runs in parallel with yours; in the second, it starts after you have your card. A lot depends on your basis: how much income you need to show per person, whether family members can work and how long the decision takes.

For example, for digital nomads and startup visa holders the required funds go up with each family member, and the relatives themselves get the right to work. Financially independent residents also need an extra amount per person, but no one in the family can work on that status. We put together the proof of family ties so the file is not sent back because of mismatched names and dates.

Who it is for

  • Spouses of digital nomads, entrepreneurs, students and financially independent residents
  • Children and, under some programs, adult children who are dependents
  • Dependent parents, where the main program allows it
  • Families who do not move at the same time

Requirements

  • A valid status or a filed application of the main applicant in Spain
  • Marriage or family documents with an apostille and sworn translation
  • Income or funds for each family member under the rules of the main program
  • Health insurance for each person
  • A criminal record certificate for adults
  • For an unmarried couple: proof that you live together

What we do

  • Check which relatives can be included under your basis
  • Calculate the required income or funds for the whole family
  • Collect proof of family ties and arrange apostilles and sworn translations
  • File your family's documents together with yours or through family reunification
  • Help after approval: TIE cards, local registration and school for the children

Key documents

  • Passports of family members
  • Marriage certificate or proof of an unmarried couple relationship
  • Children's birth certificates
  • Criminal record certificates for adults
  • Proof of the main applicant's income or funds
  • Health insurance for each person
  • Notarized consent of the other parent if a child moves without them

How it works

  1. Basis checkthe main applicant's status, family members and the amount required
  2. Proof of family tiescertificates, apostilles and sworn translations
  3. Filingtogether with the main application or through family reunification
  4. Decisionusually on the same timeline as the main application
  5. Cards and settling inTIE cards, local registration and school

Timeline

Usually on the same timeline as the main applicant's case; family members can also join later through reunification.

Timelines are approximate: government agencies, consulates and banks set them.

What to watch out for

  • Mismatched names and dates between passports and certificates are a common reason for corrections
  • If the income does not cover the whole family, the relatives' applications may be refused
  • A child traveling without one parent needs notarized consent from the other parent
  • An unmarried relationship without registration is harder to prove than a marriage

FAQ

How much does it cost?

Our service fee is on request. Government fees, translations, insurance and other mandatory costs are paid separately; we send the full estimate before you sign.

How do I get a Spain residence permit for family members?

Your family's documents are filed together with the main applicant's or later through family reunification. You need marriage and birth certificates with an apostille and sworn translation, insurance for each person and proof that your income covers everyone.

Can my family apply later?

Yes. If you move first, your spouse and children can join you once you have your status. Timing and requirements depend on the basis on which you live in Spain. We will tell you when it is best to apply.

Can family members work in Spain?

It depends on the basis. Relatives of a digital nomad or a startup visa entrepreneur can work in Spain. With financially independent residence, no one in the family can work. We check your option before filing so your work plans match the status.

How much does the income requirement go up?

For digital nomads and startup visa holders, by 75% of the Spanish minimum wage for the first family member and 25% for each additional one. Financially independent residents have their own amounts tied to the IPREM index. We will calculate the exact figure for your family.

Can I include my parents or adult children?

Under some programs, yes, if they are dependents. For example, under the startup visa the family includes adult children and dependent parents. We check each basis separately and tell you how to prove dependency.

Do we need to be officially married?

An official marriage is the simplest. A registered unmarried couple (pareja de hecho) may also qualify, but you will need to prove that you live together with documents: a shared address, bank accounts, joint expenses. We will tell you which evidence is accepted and how to gather it.

Do you guarantee the result?

No. Decisions are made by government agencies, consulates and banks. We are responsible for preparing and checking documents, filing and support, and we tell you about the risks upfront.
