A residence permit for people with a regular passive income from abroad: a pension, rent, dividends or interest. The income threshold is lower than in similar programs in Spain, Italy and France.
The Portugal D7 visa is for people with a steady passive income that comes from outside the country. The main applicant must show income of at least the Portuguese minimum wage, which is €920 a month in 2026. Add half of that, €460, for a spouse or another adult family member, and 30%, or €276, for each child. You also need savings in a Portuguese bank account and housing: a lease of at least one year or property you own. You first get a visa at a consulate, then a residence permit from the AIMA agency. The first card is issued for 2 years and renewed for 3.
Remote work and freelancing do not count as passive income; there is a digital nomad visa for that. Another condition people often underestimate: you are expected to actually live in Portugal, and long absences can cost you the status. We check your income sources and your plans for living in the country before filing.
The timeline depends on the consulate's decision on the visa and on your AIMA appointment in Portugal.
Timelines are approximate: government agencies, consulates and banks set them.
Our service fee is from $8,500. Government fees, translations, insurance and other mandatory costs are paid separately; we send the full estimate before you sign.
A passive income from abroad of at least the Portuguese minimum wage: in 2026 that is €920 a month for the main applicant. Add 50% (€460) for a spouse and 30% (€276) for each child. On top of the income, you need savings in a Portuguese account. We calculate the exact amounts for your filing date during the consultation.
No. Remote work and freelancing are not passive income. Portugal has a separate digital nomad visa for that, with a higher threshold. If you have both a salary and passive income, we will tell you which route is more reliable for you.
Once you hold the residence card, you can work in Portugal. But your status is still based on passive income, and you have to prove it again when you renew. That is why it is better to discuss your work plans before you apply.
The status assumes you really live there. In the first 2 years you cannot be away for more than 6 months in a row or 8 months in total, or you risk losing the permit. If you travel a lot, factor this in before filing.
A new version of the Portuguese nationality law has applied since May 19, 2026. Most foreigners now need 10 years of legal residence; citizens of EU and Portuguese-speaking countries need 7. You also have to prove knowledge of the Portuguese language, culture and history. We check the conditions on the date you apply.
Yes. Your spouse, children and dependent parents can get residence together with you. The required income and savings go up with each family member. You will need proof of family ties with an apostille and translation.
No. Decisions are made by government agencies, consulates and banks. We are responsible for preparing and checking documents, filing and support, and we tell you about the risks upfront.
We will check whether the program fits your citizenship, income and family, and send an estimate with the full list of costs.
